Clomid – Clomiphene Citrate General Description

Clomid – Clomiphene citrate is a potent antiestrogen drug similar to Tamoxifen (tamoxifen citrate). The medicine was first used in female patients in the 1970s to treat infertility. This antiestrogen is used by athletes during anabolic-androgenic steroid cycles to reduce undesirable adverse reactions induced by the conversion of testosterone to estrogen (a female sex hormone) and to increase the development of natural testosterone during post-cycle therapy.

Clomiphene citrate has an effect on the pituitary gland’s estrogen receptors. Through binding them, the medication prevents the regular feedback – estrogens usually reduce LH and FSL development, but this is avoided by using the antiestrogen. Clomid does not directly affect the production of female sex hormones in the body.

Clomiphene citrate is characterized by a strong antiestrogen activity which athletes who use steroids highly appreciate in sports. This is because many anabolic drugs dependent on testosterone are partly converted into estrogen in the body. High levels of such hormones lead to gynecomastia – the growth of the breast and excessive swelling.

Clomiphene citrate is considered a well-tolerated antiestrogen in sports and, as confirmed by scientific studies, does not cause serious adverse reactions. Nonetheless, in cases of human intolerance or excessive dose, side effects are likely.

Females may experience unwanted side effects in the form of irritability, abrupt emotional changes, depressed feelings, swelling. There are also other side effects that are likely frequent headaches, bouts of nausea, sharp increases in body temperature, unpleasant sensation in the chest area, acne, deteriorated vision.
Use of clomiphene citrate can result in visual disturbances such as blurred vision. To remove any side effects, it is necessary to stop using the antiestrogen and substitute it with another medication of the same class of medicines.

Clomiphene Administration and Dosage

The dose of the antiestrogen depends on the severity of the anabolic drug cycle completed. The more medications you take, the more dosages you use, the more you need to recover the body’s normal functioning. Use can vary:

• PCT after a very mild cycle – 15 days at 50 mg daily, then it’s 15 days at 25 mg of the active component;
• a mild cycle – 15 days at 50 mg daily, then it’s 15 days at 25 mg once every two days;
• a medium cycle – 30 days at 50 mg daily, then it’s 15 days at 25 mg;
• a severe anabolic steroids cycle – 15 days at 100 mg daily, then it’s 15 days at 50 mg, and finally it’s 15 days at 25 mg of the drug daily;
• PCT after a very severe cycle – 3 days at 150 mg, then it’s 12 days at 100 mg, and finally it’s 15 days at 50 mg daily and 15 days at 25 mg.

To restore the production of testosterone, testosterone boosters should be used. It is also recommended to maintain a sport diet. If the main active component of the steroid has stopped its action in the body, clomiphene should be introduced.
